Anyone want about 10 of them? I don't want them for my tank but I don't have the heart to throw them out. Any takers? They are cute but they are just not what I'm wanting and they came on my plants. Some people like them to keep the tank in balance by having them act like algae eaters and eating the decaying plants (if you have live plants like I do). I might keep one or two but I don't want that many...lol.

Oh man those things breed like crazy and live forever! Austin has had the same ones in his tank for 3 years now! They really do a good job of cleaning the tank though!

Jamie wants to start up a fish tank one day soon.
I'll see if he'd want a few snails in it.
He actually wants to get a turtle but I told him no cause I don't want to be stuck caring for a turtle while he's gone.

OMG I had two turtles for Blake when he was younger and they are soooo dirty! They shed their skin so much and I would have to EMPTY and clean that tank at least once a week and that was with an expensive filter on there! Never again!

Wow, that's good to know about turtles! I've been wanting to get a pet for Ryan but haven't decide on what to get. We almost got a hedgehog that my boss was giving away for free but found out they it might not bee such a great idea. I really wanted to get a bunny but also found out they're not good pets for kids....:gaah:

Have you thought of a guinea pig? Honestly they are the sweetest most friendly pet ever and a GREAT first pet! They never bite, are easy to please, don't stink (if you clean the cage properly) and are just sweet animals!

Bunny's are good pets!
I've had a couple growing up. I had one from a baby and when he got older he would hop around the yard following me! I also had a small white dwarf bunny, she was litter trained. So when I let her out of her cage I would bring her litter out and she'd go in there.
They can stink though, boys more than girls. And if you let them out you have to make sure they don't chew on stuff.

I love the squeaking noises they make. So cute!

And when they go into heat they can be super nasty and spray all over!

We've talked about getting one, but my nanny is totally afraid of "rodents" and I think she would be afraid of the guinea pig. I guess I need to talk to her and tell her that she won't have to care for the pet at all and see if she's okay just to be around him. I'm just not sure how afraid she is, if it's only that she doesn't want to touch them or if she will freak out on me!!

Well they aren't like a hampster, rat or mouse, they are bigger, more furry, more like a cat, lol.

I know, but I wonder if she will see it like a BIG rat?? I guess I need to have a talk with her....
Adam and Ryan would LOVE to have a cat, but I'm allergic to most breeds. Maybe I need to look into that....

You know, I had heard that they were good pets, and then I went to the Vancouver rabbit rescue website and totally got discourage about it. It just seems to me that it's almost as much work as having a dog! This is one of the "quick facts about rabbits" on their website: "Rabbits do not make good pets for children."...lol

haha, well then.
I think the biggest problem is that parents go out and get cute little bunnies around Easter for their kids and then regret it cause you have to clean their cages every day pretty much.

Yeah, that's basically what they talk about on the website. They said that is a 10 year commitment and that an adult need to care for the pet because they need to be handle with care (they can break easily), they don't like loud noises, they need to be "run" 4 hours a day (that's what the site says!). I mean, we had to give our dog away because we both work full time and the poor dog wasn't' getting enough attention so we felt it wasn't fair for the dog...it looks like having a bunny would be the same to me! :bored:

Vlad has millipedes, and they are almost the perfect pet. lol. Well, maybe not for everybody. MIL has hang-ups about crawly things, and yes, on occasion they escape the tank. Hasn't happened for a long time, though. You don't have to clean the tank very often; maybe once a year replenish the soil. They eat old fruit and vegetables! What's not to like about that? They don't bark. You can sort of take them for a walk, I guess....you'd have to carry 'em. He had a whole bunch of them, but for some strange reason, they died. Too bad, 'cause he almost had a lucrative business going on there....the pet store was paying him $$ for his millipedes. He was also getting requests from Vancouver Aquarium, so he hopes his current flock of millipedes reproduce!

Okay, I had to google "millipedes" to start with...lol
Hmmm...I don't think I could have those as a pet! I think I'm like your MIL, I have hang-ups about creepy crawlies, I would be "feeling" the millipedes inside my ears all night!! I think Ryan would love them though, he likes creepy crawlies..:)

Okay. They are sitting in a glass on my counter right now. 10 snails and a batch of eggs now that I found.
Turtles reek. We had two of them years ago and those small red-eared ones are freaky strong for the size of them. But they are cute. I liked them. But I was a kid and not 'in charge', kwim?
